Michaela Springer studied stage and costume design at the Academy for the Arts with Professor Martin Zehetgruber in Stuttgart between 2000 and 2005. Before and during her studies she worked as costume assistant for the State Theatre Stuttgart and the Aalto Theatre Essen.
Since 2005 Michaela Springer has been working as freelance stage- and costume designer and among others worked for the Würrtembergische Landesbühne Esslingen, Theatre Düsseldorf, State Theatre Wiesbaden, Theatre Dortmund, Schlosstheater Moers and State Theatre Neuss.
Her first cooperation with the choreographer Marco Goecke was in 2005 for the production „Sweet Sweet Sweet“. Since then she has worked with him on the following productions with Stuttgart Ballet: „Nutcracker“ (2006), „Alben“ (2008), „Orlando“ (2010), „Black Breath“ (2012) and „On Velvet“ (2013).
She continued this successful cooperations with Stuttgart Ballet’s resident choreographer for his creations abroad with „Der Rest ist Schweigen“ (2005), „Bravo Charlie“ (2007) and „Songs for Drella“ (2011) for Scapino Ballet Rotterdam and with „Whiteout“ (2008) and „Le Spectre de la Rose“ (2009) for Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo.
Further Michaela Springer created the costume designs for Demis Volpi‘s choreographies „Swish“ (2007), „Palpable Leers“ (2008) and „From Me To You“ (2009) fort he young choreographer’s evening of Noverre Sociecty Stuttgart as well as for Volpi’s first creation for Stuttgart Ballet, „Big Blur“ (2010).
