New: Dance produktion "Memories of child soldiers"
Invited by the German and French Embassy in Uganda, the Goethe-Institute and the Alliance Francaise to make a choreography, Valerie Miquel created the piece "Memories of child soldiers". It had its premier on September 17th, 2007 in Kampala, Uganda. In February 2008 the performance was shown again on request of the German Federal Foreign Office with Horst Köhler, the president of Germany, among the audience. After the show, he gave aneuphoric speech to the artists on stage.
The dance-theatre production “Memories of child soldiers” is dealing with – meanwhile adult – former child soldiers. 13 professional dancers from Uganda, one French video-artist and the choreographer herself stage a both sensitive and shocking performance, which was received by the audience with standing ovations on the opening night. The production found great appeal to the public as well as the international media (such as Arte and Deutschlandfunk).
