As the most long-standing dance company in the Netherlands, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam is at the forefront of Holland’s internationally-renowned dance culture. Since its inception in 1945, Scapino has played a vital role in the development of modern dance and, as well as playing Dutch venues, the group also performs at many international festivals and theatres in Italy, Germany, Finland, France, Spain, America, Portugal, Brazil e.o.
Scapino Ballet Rotterdam is the City of Rotterdam’s resident dance company. Each year, Scapino performs in four new productions, in various projects and festivals in the Netherlands and – increasingly – abroad. Our reputation as a dynamic, groundbreaking dance company attracts both young – and seasoned – audiences.
With the work of artistic leader Ed Wubbe and resident choreographers Marco Goecke and Georg Reischl, Scapino explores dance in its many guises: virtuoso, expressive, vulnerable, innovative and sometimes spectacularly bold. With a flair for entertainment, their unique, inspired choreographies have won international acclaim. Their work is interpreted by a group of 20 dancers, all of international stature. Talented guest choreographers are also invited to create pieces for Scapino on a regular basis.
