Bio Paul Julius

Dancer and choreographer Paul Julius was born in 1971 in Nürnberg, Germany. He graduated from the Iwanson School for contemporary dance in Munich und from the Académie Clasique Solange Golovine in Paris. From 1994 to 1999 Paul Julius was engaged at the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater where he created his first choreographic work in 1995. A variety of pieces and choreographies for drama and musical were yet to come. In 1999/2000 he was a member of the dance ensemble at the Stadttheater Bremerhaven and between 2000 and 2006 he was soloist dancer at the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Schwerin. Here he choreographed at this stage as well as for off-theater productions. In 1998 he was invited by the Mari-Ballet, Tokyo, as guest choreographer, which lead to an annual summer production with the Takashima Ballet Academy in Tokyo (Saitama) since 2000. Following an invitation of the New York Choreographic Institute in September/October 2005 he created a choreography together with the New York City Ballet. In 2006 his piece „Which one would you like“ was invited to the international Almada Dance Festival, Portugal. His piece „Look at me“ was shown at the international Dance Festival in Belgrade in 2007. In the same year, Paul Julius created the piece „After rain and dreams“ for the Noverre-Night of the Stuttgarter Ballett. Again working with the ballet of the theater Schwerin, he created a feature-length choreography: „Much Ado about nothing“ in 2008 and after his success there was reinvited to choreograph a “Giselle”,which will be premiered in March 2010.
